FAQs

Who can apply for grants?

The grants are open to applicants with a Swedish Doctorate (Ph.D.). The main applicant must have a PhD at a Swedish university.

Are you targeting researchers with a special focus?

Ellen Bachrach's Memorial Fund supports all research on blood diseases in children without restrictions.

When will you be notified of the granting/rejection of the application?

The Foundation is open for applications from 1 March to 30 April. Decisions are made in June and funds
are disbursed in August.

Is it possible to use funding even during parental leave?

No. Ellen Bachrach's Memorial Fund's grant is intended to provide opportunities for meritorious research. It is therefore not possible to use appropriations as a source of supply during pregnancy or parental leave unless research activities are carried out at least 50% of full-time (adjustment of the amount of the grant shall be made to correspond to the scope of study activities).

Am I eligible to apply for a grant if I will defend my thesis after the application deadline?

Yes, this is possible. You can supplement your application with the grading board's minutes of approved public defence during the current application year.

Is it possible to combine grants with other grants and ancillary tasks?

Yes, we think that is positive. The grant can be combined with other grants, scholarships, secondments, paid employment or fees.

When is the last time you can start the research project you are looking for?

The project that the applicant wishes to run must start no later than 12 months of grant granted, or already ongoing. Otherwise, a new application must be made so that the project can be assessed as relevant.

When is the grant paid?

Payment of funds will take place in August.

Do applicants need to be related to Swedish research?

Yes, applicants need that. The leader of the research group or equivalent must certify this. In addition, it is required that the main applicant has a Swedish Doctorate. However, you can place the postdoc time at a foreign university (see below).

Is it possible to use international collaborations in the project you are applying for?

Yes. Both national and international cooperation is encouraged.

In what language should the application be written?

The application can be submitted in Swedish or English. The title and popular science description should be in Swedish.

What do you want for accounting for the appropriations?

Two years after the grant, we would like an account of the activities described during the year. Preferably a story that we can post on our website and a short, filmed interview or story. For smaller contributions up to SEK 26,000, we would like an account of the trip/conference carried out one year after. Preferably a short story in text form that we can publish on our website.

How many years in a row can you get ellen bachrach's memorial fund grant?

We do not have a limit for the number of times or years, but a new application is required and you are re-assessed together with other applicants.

How do I save my application?

The application you submit is saved as a downloaded PDF or word document.

How do I print my application?

Because your documents are uploaded as word or PDF files, print as usual. The receipt you receive on the submitted application can be downloaded and printed.

What is included in "Indirect costs" and how much can they be of the grant?

At indirect costs, we count the department's administrative overhead and rent. They may amount to 20%.

I entered incorrect information in the application. Can I withdraw a submitted application during the application period?

No, it is not possible to withdraw a submitted application. But please contact us at jenny@ellenbachrachsminnesfond.se and we will help you.
